My legal journey commenced as a Cook County Public Defender, a role that indelibly shaped my perspective and kindled my passion for public service. This experience offered me a profound insight into Chicago's broader community fabric.
It was during these formative years that my commitment to justice grew stronger, supported by the invaluable trial and evidence skills that continue to guide my path. Transitioning from the Public Defender's office, I embarked on a journey of diverse legal roles.
As a Capital Trial Bar appointee, a CBA in-court bar attorney, and a Juvenile Court bar attorney, I tirelessly advocated for justice.
This commitment was echoed in the certification of my business as a WBE and my tenure as a contract administrative law judge for various State agencies.
The scope of my journey expanded, leading me to appearances in courthouses across the county, federal and immigration courts. In this arena, I volunteered at the National Immigrant Justice Clinic, securing DACA protection and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for our community's children.
Venturing into government service anew, my role as Deputy General Counsel at the Illinois Lottery presented a unique challenge. While my career had been marked by personal impact, the Lottery’s operation allowed me to affect positive change on a larger scale. In this capacity, I have overseen the governance of the Lottery's vast retailer network, contributing to an impressive $834 million contribution to the Illinois School Fund in the last period.
Why do I aspire to be a judge? Because, fundamentally, I understand that the foundation of society rests upon being heard, understood, and treated fairly. Through countless interactions, whether with red or blue, rich or poor, my conviction remains the same. As a judge, my impact will reverberate through those who appear before me. By truly hearing, comprehending, and treating all fairly, I aim to cultivate justice that, in turn, fosters peace and safety within our communities. My journey is one driven by a profound commitment to justice and an unyielding desire to contribute to a fairer, more equitable world. Together, let us pave the way for a harmonious society where justice begets peace. I humbly ask for your support in this endeavor.
